For some reasons, we see a lot of moroccan males wearing hats around town. It could be due to the hot weather or some sort of trend but considering that I've been noticing this particularity in the past 4months, i would assume it's more a trend than anything else.
Wondering about the percentage of males that follow this routine a new research was proposed; To watch males passing by and note down how many were wearing anything covering their heads: either a cap, a hat or a taqiyah.
Researchers:
~ Sofia (me)
~ Maria
Methodology:
~ We sat in a café in one of the main streets in Azrou, Morocco, and with our material, we spent exactly 1h looking at all the passing by males in the main street, on both sides, while noting down if they had anything covering their heads. No discrimination on what type of hat was made during this research.
Subject:
~ Every passing by male pedestrian either on our side of the street or in the opposite.
Material:
~ Two pieces of paper
~ Pen / pencil
Date and Time:
~ 03 July, 2010
~ From 13:17 to 14:17.
Results:
Conclusions:
~ Even though the majority of males does not seem to follow the "hat trend", we still managed to observe 24% of the passing by males wearing some sort of hat around town during the data collection.
And the funny thing is that it's more or less the same percentage as women wearing (or not) a head scarf, only in reverse. See the head scarf research for more details :)
