~ One of the most curious features about moroccan males is their inexplicable love for moustaches.
I never saw so many men proudly displaying their unshaved growth of hair on the upper lip like in Azrou.

Curious about the average percentage of males that can be observed during a weekend afternoon with this feature we decided to investigate the facial hair style in general within the male population in our little moroccan town.
After a short observation we realized that we needed at least 5 categories in order to organize the data properly.
- Shaved face
- Beard (unshaved for a period of +/- 1day to +/- a week)
- Hardcore Beard (vast and dense beard and not just a lack or will or patience to shave in the morning)
- Moustache
- Goatee
If there was one thing that we realized while doing the data collection is that a new category called "What the hell was that?" should be implemented due to the number of times that question crossed our mind. However, the study was already in march so we just kept going with the 5 we originally created. If we suddenly face a lack of new research ideas we can always redo this one with that "special" category to fit all those rebel maroccan males.
Researchers:
~ Sofia (me)
~ Maria
Methodology:
~ We sat in a café in one of the main streets in Azrou, Morocco, and with our material, we spent exactly 1h looking at all the passing by males in the main street, on both sides, while noting down if they had any facial hair and if so, the type to fit in one of our 5 categories.
Subject:
~ Every passing by adult male pedestrian either on our side of the street or in the opposite. We only noted the ones that looked old enough to have facial hair.
Material:
~ Two pieces of paper
~ Pen / pencil
Date and Time:
~ 03 July, 2010
~ From 13:17 to 14:17.

Conclusions:
~ The first obvious thing we can conclude is that, in fact, moroccan males prefer to have some sort of facial hair. This can be due to either a real stylish preference, or just laziness to shave.
We noted that the moustache is, like predicted, the favourite type of facial hair style displayed by adult moroccan males living in Azrou.
Another interesting thing to note is the amount of men with "beard". As beard we classified that little growth of facial hair that resembles a "normal" 3-day unshaved male, what makes us wonder if they were thinking about growing a "real" beard or just saving some dirhams on shaving cream and razors.
This i guess we'll never know..
